Now, Alexander could have regretted a lot of things because of those events. If he stayed in the military, his family could have been wealthy. As for Washington, Alexander could have stopped antagonizing Thomas Jefferson so that he would not have thought of running for president. Then, he might have lived with no regrets at all.

That is the problem. Every time, when people see you as a reliable and independent individual, they never care. They automatically assume you are okay and that you do not need any help.
